Acumen is looking for a bold, experienced fundraiser to join our Business Development team in New York.  We’re looking for someone with 7-10 years’ experience, with a strong record in sales or fundraising, both managing existing relationships and cultivating new partners; someone who is audacious, who thrives in complexity and has a proven commitment to addressing global poverty.

About the Opportunity

Acumen is hiring a Business Development Manager to be a key driver in securing the financial health of our organization. Tapping into your own networks and existing knowledge on how to navigate the world of non-profit fundraising will be your superpower to hit the ground running and generate value from the get-go.

This role will not be for the meek and status quo. This role requires creatively developing new deals by identifying innovative potential synergies and complex partnerships. You’ll bring a strong ability to connect the dots across teams and will find yourself pitching a program team followed by a specific geography team, followed by a new cross-cutting team. You know who needs to be in the room, and can provide coaching and support to team members who are not as comfortable in business development.

In year one at Acumen, you will crush a personal target of $500K+, then eagerly take on a goal of $1-2M in subsequent years. You will creativity seek out new relationships, develop meaningful partnerships, and successfully collaborate across multiple teams and geographies.

Specifically, you will:

  • Design and execute an engagement strategy for existing partner (donor) relationships.
  • Develop pipeline of new prospects through referrals, research, and networking.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop new ways to partner with donors.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent client records in Acumen’s CRM.
  • Organize and execute networking events as necessary; leveraging Acumen’s existing partner community and helping develop content for sector-specific gatherings.
  • Assist in the execution of partner-only events, bringing together internal and external stakeholders from across the globe.

You are a/n...

  • Experienced Fundraiser - You have 6+ years of demonstrated success in fundraising, sales, or client management. Your experience is varied--you’ve navigated the intricacies of non-profits and startups of various sizes.
  • Mission-Aligned -  You are fully committed to, and enthusiastic about, Acumen’s mission of tackling global poverty through utilizing innovative business models. You understand the nuances of this complex sector, with a specific interest in developing economies and impact investing. You also understand the context in which we are operating, and can effectively articulate Acumen to a successful VC, a PhD, and a 10-year-old.
  • Natural Connector – You have developed a strong network by always looking for opportunities to provide value to others, creatively connecting people to resources and each other to help further their goals.
  • Results-Driven Performer – You thrive when faced with the challenge of hitting specific goals and then given the room to creatively solve them. Your agility allows you to think on your feet and adjust quickly, while your tenacity and resilience drives you towards your goals.
  • Effective Collaborator - You’ve successfully worked across cultural lines on a global team and you have the ability to operate independently in complex situations. You can easily gain trust from team members and are known for supporting them to ensure they are set them up for success.
