Acumen is looking for an exceptional individual to take our Leadership work in India to the next level. Our flagship program, the Acumen India Fellows Program, is in its fourth year, working with 74 social change leaders across 22 States. We are looking for someone to manage this flagship program, to support Fellows on their life-long journey of social change, and to execute on a growth strategy for India.

Our Leadership programs

Over the last decade, Acumen has been investing in a pipeline of leaders on the journey to create change in our interconnected world. These are leaders who challenge the status quo and inspire their communities to believe in and work for a brighter future. They hold values in tension and, in the words of Rilke, they “live the questions” rather than seek out easy answers.

We launched the Acumen India Fellows Program in 2014 as a one- year, fully-funded leadership development program that gives up to 20 individuals from across India the training they need to accelerate their social impact and leadership capability. Our Fellows Programs provide emerging leaders the opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded individuals, participate in world-class training seminars, and develop new skills to accelerate their own growth and the trajectory of their work and the work of their organizations.

We are now thinking about the next chapter of our work in India, which includes supporting our Fellows on their life-long journey beyond the Fellowship year and executing on a growth strategy to build the leadership capacity of more social change leaders in India.

 

Position Description  

The India Leadership Manager will be responsible for leading the Leadership function for India. This role will consistent primarily of four major activities:

  • Manage the flagship program - Acumen India Fellows, delivering a world-class experience for the Fellows
  • Grow the program in India (geographically? Number of cohorts/fellows?)
  • Oversee the development of the “Beyond the Fellowship Year” platform, including local partnerships and integration of +Acumen into our India offering
  • Raise funds to sustain and grow the program, and build an external support community

The India Leadership Manager will have ownership over all aspects of the Leadership function, and will oversee the Community Lead and an Administrative Associate to execute against the program goals. The India Leadership Manager will work in close collaboration with the East Africa and Pakistan program Managers. S/he will report to the Head of Leadership and Strategic Partnerships, India. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Manage the flagship program, Acumen India Fellows

  • Guide the 20 Fellows through the year-long program:
    • Own the overall program curriculum for the fellowship year, including the development – and in some cases delivery – of training sessions, identifying, vetting and negotiating with external trainers/speakers
    • Guide Fellows to develop mastery of curriculum content, spending additional time outside of training sessions to help all Fellows understand difficult concepts
    • Work to constantly improve curriculum to better meet the needs of Fellows both in India and globally.
    • Coach Fellows – Continuously provide verbal feedback, periodically conduct 1-on-1’s with Fellows, and provide written evaluations over the course of the year
    • Develop a robust and active Fellows community, and connect Fellows to new individuals, networks, or opportunities that contribute to their leadership development and/or their social impact work
  • Oversee all program operations:
    • Supervise the day-to-day operations and logistics of running the program, including monitoring the program budget and executing all seminar/event logistics and seminar trainers
    • Monitor Fellows closely to ensure they are complying with policies around attendance and participation, enforcing these policies accordingly
  • Grow the Acumen India Fellows program
    • Develop and run pilots to test new programs and paths to scale, including conceptualizing, fundraising, execution and analysis in close partnership with the Global Chief Innovation Officer, India Country Director and Head of Leadership and Strategic Partnerships, India
    • Launch new initiatives and build the India Leadership team as required
  • Oversee the “Beyond Year 1” Partnerships and Offerings, in partnership with Community Lead
    • Design and test new offerings underneath the “Beyond Year 1” platform focused on coaching, skill development and access to funds and platforms
    • Translate successful pilots to program offerings, in partnership with peer organizations to support delivery

Fundraise and Build Community

  • Own and manage relationships with key program funders
  • Establish new funding relationships for flagship programs as well as any new initiatives
  • Establish a strong community of Supports and Advisors who can provide you – and the Fellows – with ongoing support for the Leadership work in India 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will bring a deep commitment to Acumen’s mission of solving the toughest problems of poverty, and a passion for leadership development.

Your background looks something like this:

  • 7-10 years’ work experience in a related field (preferably in education, training, fellowships and/or leadership development, entrepreneurship)
  • Significant experience in group facilitation/training or classroom teaching
  • Experience setting up new ventures/programs in new markets, is preferred but not required
  • Prior work experience in a fast-paced environment, ability to work efficiently against tight deadlines
  • Familiarity and exposure to the field of social enterprise and poverty alleviation preferred
  • A graduate/master’s degree in a related field (for example: education, psychology, leadership, etc.
  • Entrepreneurial experience is preferred, but not required
  • Strong verbal & written communications skills, and comfort representing the India Program externally
